About the timeline

“And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing" (I Corinthians 13:2)

God does not leave mankind groping in the dark, but neither does he impose Himself on us. He is working on a voluntary covenant of love. That is why you only find when you search, and the door only opens when you knock.

The timeline is intended as an aid in this search. It will show you that there is a very real and hopeful story, which you can be a part of. I didn't make it up myself. The timeline is based on the most extraordinary testimony available on this earth, the Bible, Gods written Word. You will read about the beginning of everything, beautiful highs, dark lows and even get a preview of the end of the world as we know it. Inspired by the Bible, the timeline aims to provide you with the anchor points needed to think about the course of world history. All other great and small events, including your own life, take on their meaning in that light. Below this page you will find topics that you will come across.

Using the timeline
The timeline is interactive. Click on a tile and a pop-up shows with an intro to the subject. To delve deeper into it, go to 'I want to know more'. This will bring you to a page with more explanations, examples and arguments. Between the lines you’ll find some tips for films, documentaries and books. These are fine to skip, but they are a valuable starting point for your own further research. When you're done, click on the back button and you'll be back on the timeline. Here you can select another topic.

If you want to understand the story it helps enormously to follow the chronology. The timeline shows you step by step that we are not dealing with some phantasy, but with a trustworthy story about the real world. You’re looking at reality, through the clear lens of the Bible.

In its various parts, a spiritual battle is outlined that runs through all of history. That can be a bit frightening. Things which are hidden in darkness are coming to light. Is it really necessary to delve into this dimension? Yes, it is. You don't need to know everything in detail, but basic knowledge is of great importance. It gives you spiritual discernment. What do you get involved in? Where do you put your priorities? We follow the apostle Paul's advice:

“Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore, do not be partakers with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them” (Ephesians 5:6-11).

We can investigate these issues without fear, given the hope and confidence that victory is already assured.

I have created the timeline to the best of my ability. This, of course, is limited and fallible. You can therefore ask me any question you want, as long as you do it out of a desire for truth. I also encourage you to do your own research. Use the clues you get, buy a Bible, compare the ideas on the market, ask God for help, and discuss until you are really at peace with it. You don't let your life go by without thinking it through, do you?

I struggled quite a bit to find the right balance. Several topics and perspectives are unknown to many people, unconventional or sensitive for understandable reasons. I would like to do justice to every visitor of this site. Everyone has his or her own cultural background, family ties, religious views, interests, scientific assumptions and personal choices. Young and old, man and woman, Chinese to Aboriginal, Pole to Bushman and New Yorker, every person is equally valuable in God's eyes. But I can't build a bridge to each individual. I'd rather leave that to God. So why did I create this timeline? Because I believe it is respectful and loving to share the truth.

A search for truth
But come on, who still believes in truth? In our postmodern world, love and truth are at odds. An in-depth conversation is quickly seen as a threat. A question is experienced as an attack on one's own opinion. And if there’s something close to truth it has to come from secular science and certainly not from the Bible.

This state of affairs is a real shame because it creates a false contradiction. Truth is that which (or whom) is real and reliable. It's what you can count on. Truth, therefore, is actually very valuable. God's community grows: “(...) by holding us in love to the truth” (read Paul’s full argument in Ephesians 4:11-25). Truth and love are inseparable. Don't you believe this? That’s fine. You are free to form your own opinion. But whether it is smart to just dismiss the search for truth, that is very much the question. Here's my advice: first invest time and effort in it, and then form your own opinion. You won’t regret it.

You will find it here!
In the timeline you will come across many topics and developments. It helps a great deal to follow the chronological story from A to B. Only then will you really start to see the correlations. But you can choose to zoom in at a certain point as well. In below list you find an impression of what subjects you will encounter along the way. And it gives you the opportunity to jump in and read something about it right away. Good luck and feel free to share your thoughts or questions via (info@thetimeline.online)!

In these stormy times we need a reliable anchor. Who or what is that anchor in your life? The Bible tells the true story of our world history. Are you willing to invest a few hours of your life to investigate it? Wishing you much wisdom, perseverance and inspiration in your life's most important quest!
